Show Notes:

The best things in life are going to come from things that scare you. We pray for massive expansion. We want to hold these incredibly huge visions, except when we get put into the exact thing that is going to expand us. A lot of us say, get me out of here. I can't do it. This is too much. I'm not sure of myself. What about my past? What are people going to say? And we don't sit long enough in the fire to let it burn away our old form and let us stretch into the person that can handle the dream. Today I’m talking all about staying in the discomfort in order to get through it and through to the other side. I hope today’s quickie serves as a reminder or way for you to be able to get back to the heart-centered reason of WHY you’re working on your dreams.

In today’s “questionably awesome” episode, Evans and I are talking all about resistance. We cover how to love yourself into making better decisions, how to make a decision and move on without second-guessing plus how to pause to make sure you’re in control of your emotions so you don’t act from a place of chemical reaction in your body.

Review of the Week:

Aliciasep

Holy crap I’ve never felt closer to y’all! I love the show! Been listening for over a year and finally getting around to leaving a review. Just listened to a Questionably Awesome about leveling up where you talked about going home - specifically how you feel like you have to rush to get home and sit with family, and then they talk about their new shelf! I thought it was just me and it’s cool to hear that you all experience that. Also, why is that even a thing!? Anyway, love your podcast and random tangents. Makes me feel like I’m just listening to people I want to be friends with. Btw, can we be friends?! -Alicia

Question 1:

@meg_cole_

How do you push through towards your goals when the resistance is SO STRONG?

It doesn't matter what you do, it matters how you do it.” Join us for this conversation about consciously raising capital, running a business intuitively and why Makenzie’s so passionate about entrepreneurs who are committed to their own healing.

Whether you are being bullied online, whether you have a friend who is questioning who you are as you grow, or whether you are completely doubting yourself and not feeling smart enough, these are all opportunities to shine. I recently had an experience that I might share more about later. In the past, I would have gone to a very dark place and it would have taken me down for a really long time. This time I was able to bounce right back knowing that it is not our place to feel bad. We are meant to stay in joy because that's where we get outside of our heads and our small worlds. We expand, we grow and we give our talents, our efforts and our money to people. I hope today’s quickie serves as a reminder or way for you to be able to get back to the heart-centered reason of WHY you’re working on your dreams.

Show Notes:

Six years ago Ashley LeMieux and her husband got a phone call asking them to become parents of a six-year-old and a four-year-old. They weren’t looking to adopt or foster at the time, but they said yes, and their life became all about their new family. During the final stages of the adoption process they experienced an unexpected contested adoption, which meant that they spent over a year and a half in court fighting to keep their family together. In the end the kids were taken from them with 12 hours notice and Ashley and her husband were not even allowed to tell the kids they weren’t coming home. Ashley says the past two years have been filled with her trying to figure out how to find a life again after it was all taken away. She felt buried by pain for so long she couldn’t work out how to move forward, but her journey through that has ignited everything she’s doing now. To begin she started a morning routine that added purpose back into her day. She wanted to write a book about her experiences and, after 30 different publishers said no, she figured out that no-one else’s opinion mattered and did it anyway. Her book, Born To Shine, shares stories, lessons, and practical tools to help women shine despite the darkness, to press forward one day at a time even when there is no end in sight, and to turn their most painful moments into their greatest teachers and signposts to true, deep, unassailable joy.

Question Highlights:

  • How do you find closure when you couldn’t say goodbye to your kids?
  • Was writing your book therapeutic?
  • What should people do when they can’t see a way out of suffering?
  • How can we believe in the significance of our story?
  • How do we bring divine ideas to life and have faith in them even when they've lost their excitement?

Guest Bio:

Ashley LeMieux is an author, sought-after public speaker, and wildly successful lifestyle influencer. She's the founder of the online community, The Shine Project, where she creates resources and tools that have ignited a path of clarity and fulfillment for hundreds of thousands of women around the world. Through her fashion and lifestyle brand, Shop Ashley LeMieux, she empowers "Women Who Do" to show up confidently and courageously to their lives. She believes that you can turn your pain into your power.

Today’s podcast is all about getting out of your own way because you have bigger fish to fry. You can’t play small anymore, you can’t live for other people and you can’t keep waiting for someone else to save you. That thing that you think just stopping you is your power. For me it was my anxiety, even though it was debilitating, and I told myself I couldn't do what I wanted because of it. Our superpower is to really share where we're at, and to share our truth and share that we're nervous and to remember that we're all in this human experience together. You can’t say the wrong thing to the right people, so get out there, find your audience, and live the life you want! Resources:

Show Notes:

Today I’m talking about the side effects of following your calling. But first I want to talk about the side effects of not following your calling. If you’re not taking actions that support your highest self, you get resentful toward yourself, the people that you love of other people and people who are inspiring to you. You feel anger, anxiety, isolation, comparison, and depression. The most important thing you can do is to really take note of how you're holding yourself back and learn to move forward. But moving forward isn’t pain-free either. You’ll feel discomfort and massive fear. You’ll make new friends and mentors but they won’t let you hide. You’ll lose people along the way. But at the end of your life you won’t be wishing you’d done things differently. I hope today’s quickie serves as a reminder or way for you to be able to get back to the heart-centered reason of WHY you’re working on your dreams.

Then one day at the parent teacher conference he overheard his teacher telling his mom that he was so much better at sports than he was at art. Because we gravitate to where we get rewarded, he became an athlete, went to college on a soccer scholarship and made the Olympic Development Program soccer team. Then, a week before Chase graduated college, his grandfather died from a heart attack and left Chase his cameras. Chase started teaching himself how to take pictures and that led to his career as one of the most influential photographers of the past decade, the developer of the first photo app to share images to social networks and the founder of CreativeLive. Now Chase is on a mission to break down myths about what creativity is and who can practice it. He says that when we look at all the decisions we make every day - what you're going to have for dinner, what business that you're going to build - as creative acts, that’s when we understand that we have the agency to create our lives.

Question Highlights:

  • How did you come to think of yourself as creative?
  • How do you protect your creative time?
  • How do make space for creativity when you really need to be making money?

Guest Bio:

Chase Jarvis is an award-winning artist, entrepreneur, and one of the most influential photographers of the past decade.

He has created campaigns for Apple, Nike, Red Bull and others, was a contributor to the Pulitzer-winning New York Times story Snowfall, and earned an Emmy nomination for his documentary Portrait of a City. He also created Best Camera--the first photo app to share images to social networks, and is the Founder of CreativeLive, where more than 10 million students learn photography, video, design, music and business from the world's top creators and entrepreneurs.

He's a keynote speaker, an advisor to Fortune 100 brands, and has been a guest at the Obama White House, the United Nations, the Library of Congress, 10 Downing Street, Buckingham Palace, and the DIFC in Dubai.

Today I’m talking about making decisions. To actually make a decision you have to put skin in the game, say no to things and schedule your calendar so that it’s aligned with your dreams. Lately I've been fierce about making sure that I have room in my calendar for all of my new projects. And I am so proud of myself because, looking back at last year, I had a calendar full of things that I didn't necessarily want to do. I was more reacting to life than actually taking time to think if it was something that would move the needle forward. I was doing things because I didn't want to say no and hurt people's feelings. But you have to say no to things in order to create space for your dreams. I hope today’s quickie serves as a reminder or way for you to be able to get back to the heart-centered reason of WHY you’re working on your dreams.

Awesome content! This is actually the first podcast I’ve ever heard, as a friend in LA told me how great it is, so glad I found it! Got into podcasting more than listening to music as I drive around for work projects. Your guests are great and inspiring as well and I’ve listened to a few of theirs as well. Your messages are so relatable and a lot I needed to hear at times, it really is all about mindset which leads to happiness. I will definitely be at the 2020 Bliss Project, getting my ticket soon :) Thank you! -Ashley

I didn't want to leave my shit friends behind because they were familiar. I didn’t know who I was without my anxiety. It’s possible to break out of being stuck in the life we tolerate but don’t love. Dr. Morgan Francis joins me to talk about cultivating self-love, particularly in the face of diet culture and a societal obsession with external appearance. Dr. Morgan spent years trying to avoid the pain of her brother’s death when she was a teenager and one of the ways she did this was by developing an eating disorder. She says she knew there was a problem when she was out on a date and she could not even pay attention to what he was saying because bread had been put on the table. Now she is a therapist and runs an online course for women looking to improve their body image.

Question Highlights:

  • How do we stop yourself getting stuck in fear and worry?
  • What are the phases of grief?
  • How can we accept the pain that comes with all of the beautiful things in life?

  • How do we know when we need help?
  • How do we confront our problem, but not get stuck in the problem?

For too long society has been embracing diet culture and pushing you to believe how you look is not good enough. No matter how thin or fit you look, you cannot outrun the pressures that surround you because the transformation of loving and appreciating your body happens internally, not externally. Dr. Francis’ online courses on body image and self-love will help you to take back your life.

  • Getting comfortable with fear and failure
  • Getting comfortable with feedback and criticism

Show Notes:

Today’s episode is all about getting comfortable with fear and failure. These are the only things that are stopping you from living your biggest dream and living out the gifts that God gave you. And when you don’t live your biggest dream, you're stopping the person who you're meant to help from getting the help that they need. You are literally cutting off their lifeline because that message is meant to come through you. Write down what you’re afraid of to see how ridiculous your thoughts are. Are you scared that your opinionated friend Becky is going to say something on Instagram? Are you scared that your moms’ group is going to say, who do you think you are? Are you scared that your husband or ex-boyfriend will say you're failing again? I want you to literally ask pain and fear to bring it on because you can handle it. Pain and the failure is where all of the learning and value is. Bring it on. You can do hard things, you can handle hard things. You can handle feedback, you can handle criticism. You choose if you're going to get taken down or you get back up but every time you get back up, you get stronger, you grow a muscle. I hope today’s quickie serves as a reminder or way for you to be able to get back to the heart-centered reason of WHY you’re working on your dreams.
