Great Minds Rant Alike

The first episode I listened to I was hearing what sounded like crazy banter between Lori and her sidekick partner Evans. I wasn’t sure this was for me. But I was now having fun because they were having so much fun. For some reason I kept listening, it’s been 5 months now, and I have gotten something out of each episode. I’m a few years older than Lori, and can totally relate to all of her music, TV, movie references to yesteryears. I shared three takeaways from the show with Sheri Salata on my IG, and I’ve never shared a show there before. Then, when I heard the episode called Turn your Hard Times Into Greatness, and Lori shared the anxious rant that runs in her head that keeps her from being present in every aspect of her life, I realized I love this podcast so much because I can relate. So many of us can. I’m not the only one saying the same rant to myself. Lori will give you tips on all aspects of Earning Your Happy, because she’s gone through this and is completely relatable. Listen up!

Question 1:

@lisalupo_

Without knowing all the "tricks" + having an assistant, how TF do you radically uplevel?

Question 2:

@andreagreen94

How do you motivate your partner to start growing with you?

  • How she established boundaries and let other people take care of her when she was sick
  • Speaking your truth in a way that allows you to maintain your relationships
  • Showing up, even if you don’t feel you don’t have anything important to contribute yet

Show Notes:

Monique Bryan shows up in such a beautiful way. She is a speaker, a personal branding expert, a triple positive breast cancer survivor. She also helps successful women entrepreneurs package and sell their genius and unlock the lucrative world of personal brand building. Monique draws widespread admiration for her passion, hustle and unshakeable commitment to helping women showcase their expertise and pitch with confidence. She gave a Tribe Talk at the Bliss Project this year, and I’m so excited she could join me on the podcast to share her story with you all.

Question Highlights:

  • What was your experience preparing for the Tribe Talk?

  • Was there any parts that you were like, ‘Oh, my God, if I don't share this, will they understand?’
  • What were the reminders that you had to tell yourself to get through cancer treatment?

  • How do you accept help or ask for help?

  • What does that first step of being able to speak your truth look like?

Guest Bio:

Monique Bryan is based in Toronto and runs her own branding consultancy. Monique has a BA in Fashion Design from Ryerson University and spent time studying abroad in London at the University of Westminster.

Upon returning to Toronto, Monique landed a design position for national retailer Le Chateau and worked her way up to Product Manager for all of ladieswear, becoming the youngest executive at the company. She quickly learned the ins and outs of manufacturing and global sourcing from working with their partners across Asia. But it was her frequent trips to India where she discovered her love of jewellery design and in 2010 she launched a jewellery company, landing her line in retailers across Toronto and New York.

This began her crash course in entrepreneurship and where she discovered her true love for business and marketing. So, when she was offered a chance to head up an accelerator program helping entrepreneurs jump-start their business five years later, she jumped at the chance. Partnering with global brands such as Paypal, Burberry, and Toms Shoes, Monique thought she had found her calling. But before she had a chance to decide, she discovered a lump in her left breast that changed her life forever.

Over the next year Monique underwent eight rounds of chemotherapy, surgery and 21 rounds of radiation, documenting the entire journey through her uncensored and very real account, on her blog, “Surprise, It’s Cancer!” Her blog was discovered by the writers at “Entrepreneur Magazine” and Monique was featured in the October issue in 2018. Today Monique has built a loyal following through her 10K + followers, speaks at events and conducts workshops while running her brand consultancy.

Guest Bio:

Originally from Cincinnati Ohio, Gina packed her bag and followed her childhood dream of being an actress when she moved to California in 1996. After years of auditioning for small parts on television shows, movies, and commercials, she realized that her passion was not in the entertainment industry. Instead, she found her calling in the early 2000s when she realized her true passion was helping others love themselves and feel good in their own skin. Gina’s fitness coaching career began as a yoga and spin instructor at a boutique studio in Venice, California. In 2012, Gina was recruited to be a founding Los Angeles instructor for SoulCycle. Previously only in New York City, Gina helped launch SoulCycle’s west coast venture. She personally helped open up four current Los Angeles studios: West Hollywood, Brentwood, Santa Monica, and Malibu.

Recognized for her fitness following, in 2015 Gina became an ambassador for Lululemon Santa Monica and was promoted to Master Instructor at SoulCycle in 2017 as part of the first group of Master Instructors on the west coast. Gina’s passion is grounded in helping others feel their best. In Gina’s work, she not only motivates and inspires her clients to push their physical limits, but to also be mindful of their internal dialogue to create shifts in their perspective. Gina’s classes offer a safe space for individuals to explore their limits, challenge their minds and their bodies, and most importantly walk away feeling accomplished and successful. Gina strives to create meaningful connections and believes vulnerability and self-love are the foundation of a happy life. When not teaching or training, Gina is spending quality time with her husband, two dogs, and two year old son.

I MEAN HOLY SH%$ WHERE HAVE LORI AND EVANS BEEN MY WHOLE LIFE?!!! I’ve seriously binged all the Q+A podcasts before I went to any other ones...y’all make me laugh so hard and i wanna be you both when i grow up. Sorry that was weird, but you guys are awesome and thanks for making me laugh and learn so much.

Samantha Howe
I am at a transitioning time in my life, finishing up my degree, working full-time and raising two beautiful kiddos, and over the last 3 years I’ve been on a personal journey to find my passion and to heal myself and I’ve noticed I’ve lost a lot of “friends” in this process. I don’t find myself sad about losing them but do you believe that it’s all part of the process of finding oneself? Like true friends would stick with me and the others fall off because of whatever reason? I’d love to hear what you think. I’m on the search for my tribe and I cannot settle until I find them.

Question 2:

@mrs.swarlos

New opportunity is just around the corner. How do I lean into it without tripping myself up?

Review of the Week:

@melysaalzbeta

"I first saw Lori at an event in October 218 where she did amazing spoken word poem and sang bravely in front of a very large audience. I didn't know I liked spoke word! Shortly thereafter I began listening to her podcast-addictively. I've been listening almost daily ever since. I love Lori's realness, how she can be sophisticated well of wisdom, and/or a supergoof, and somehow pull it off superbly! Her episodes are like a three course meal. when I'm on limited time I go to her "Quickie" series like an appetizers. I've had more time or I really need to sink my teeth into something, her main course of interviewing extraordinary people is completely satisfying. And on the days where I just want to indulge and feel good I listen to her Q&A series with Evan for a delicious, sweet bite that brightens my day every time. My best days have included this podcast! Stay brave, stay real and I'm staying tuned."

Question 1

@malorieavaline

Show Notes:

I am SO excited for today’s episode because I sat down with Amelia Travis, a yoga teacher with over 500 hours of education, a writer, speaker, business coach, and the founder of Stoked Yogi. After breaking her back in a surfing accident, Amelia realized that life is too short to do anything but what you love - our dreams exist for a reason. Her daily mission is to love people and help them activate their highest potential. Amelia and I met at The Bliss Project, and I am so grateful that our paths crossed! This episode is sure to leave you feeling inspired to take action in your own life, and transform your negative script into one of pure passion.

Question Highlights:

  • What do you do to take some pressure off before you lead?
  • Why did you lean on crutches, like drugs, to numb yourself?
  • What made you take a first step out of the numbing lifestyle?
  • Does the theme of pushing things away still come up for you now?
  • What kind of work are you doing around passing the tests of life?
  • What does daily fear feel like for you?

Guest Bio:

Amelia Travis is an E-RYT 500, writer, speaker, and business coach. As the founder of Stoked

Yogi, she’s impacted thousands of lives through yoga education programs, stand up paddle and surf experiences, and women’s empowerment retreats.

The journey to an empowered life was a long and winding road. Body dysmorphia, people

pleasing and perfectionist tendencies led Amelia down the path of drug addiction, disordered

eating, abusive relationships and a “sugar baby” lifestyle, and spiraled her into a rock bottom of a hundred thousand dollars in debt and a lost and broken heart.

In 2009, a spiritual awakening led Amelia to the realization that she was the only one standing in the way of becoming the woman she wanted to be. She decided to embrace messy, imperfect, unapologetic FEELING, and has since built and scaled a multi-six figure business, certified over 700 yoga teachers in stand up paddle board yoga and coached hundreds of women to personal and professional success.

Amelia’s writing has been published in Yoga Journal, Huffington Post, and the Inertia. She has

also had the honor of sharing a message on mindset shift as a TEDx speaker.

In 2012, after breaking her back in a surfing accident, Amelia realized that life is too short to do

anything but what you love - our dreams exist for a reason. Her daily mission is to love people

and help them activate their highest potential. She lives by her personal mantra: Set your

intention, breathe it to life.

  • What do you believe you are on this earth for?

Guest Bio:

I have overcome my share of obstacles in order to architect the life of my dreams and uncover the key to lasting, meaningful success. Growing up in Queens (literally on the wrong side of the tracks), my early years were tumultuous, marked by hardship and violence. With home being a less-than-idyllic place, I clung to work and education as my ticket out of the bedroom I shared with three brothers, and the low-income reality of the life my parents couldn’t seem to escape. The minute I was old enough, I threw myself into any job I could get my hands on, from washing cars at filling stations, to washing hair in salons. In hindsight, the high-end neighborhood across the tracks (home to the doctors and lawyers) likely played an unconscious role in my decision to attend school to be a chiropractor. Post high school graduation, I moved to Atlanta to complete my training and never looked back.

Over the next decade, I built a successful chiropractic practice, welcomed my first child, experienced the heartbreak of a challenging divorce, found healing and redemption when I met and married my wife, and read a book that changed my life and uncovered for me the world of lifestyle-entrepreneurship. That book was The 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferris. Having spent my entire life thus far in relentless hustle mode, I was ready for the PLAY HARD side of the hard work coin. My wife and I wanted to escape the grind and travel the world, so we did. In 2006 we launched our travel/lifestyle Blog ‘Jetset Life’ and my all or nothing tendencies showed up for the party.

Predictably, poppin’ bottles on yachts grew old and I became aware that once again my life was out of balance and I felt disconnected and unfulfilled. THIS was the pivotal moment I decided to apply myself to mastering the counter-balance between the science of achievement and the art of fulfillment. From THIS, the Work Hard Play Hard podcast and mastermind was born.

Think for 3 seconds, right now, on that part of you that when you’re with your best friend you totally fall in love with yourself. We all have projects, dreams, and parts of our personality that we hide from the outside world. As we create our projects and as we show up more in the world, we tend to get stuck in our old patterns, leaving us feeling like we can’t show up fully as our true self. Today, I’m digging into this topic and sharing my ideas on being faux-ductive versus productive.

Review of the Week:

Leah Melanie:

“Lori and Evans crack me up with their "questionably awesome" podcast. I find myself laughing in the car and it brings such levity and lightness to my day. The balance between Lori's tangible tips and topics and her silliness is the perfect blend. It reminds me of my personality and how I love my life. Yin and yang, light and heavy. I am grateful for what this podcast has brought to my life. Keep up the great work and keep being "questionably awesome"! (It's not really a question though, you're awesome for sure) xoxox, Leah”
