  • Challenging your belief systems

Show Notes:

The models that we’ve had in the past for loving ourselves, loving our family, and loving our lives have completely changed. In her latest book, “Rethink Love,” Monica Berg challenges everything we know about our belief systems around love and relationships. The more perspective that you can have, the more powerful you are in your life and the more connected you feel.

Question Highlights:

  • Are you using a lot of the tools you came up with in your first book?
  • What if people feel like fear is a part of their personality?
  • Why did you focus on love for your latest book?
  • When do you know that it’s time to leave a relationship?
  • How do you move from fear to possibility?

Guest Bio:

Monica Berg is a CHANGE JUNKIE and she wants to challenge the way you think about EVERYTHING.

In her first book, FEAR IS NOT AN OPTION, she challenged readers to eradicate fear from their lives. In her latest book, RETHINK LOVE, she uses years of personal experience teaching and counseling to eradicate false belief systems around love and relationships.

Monica is a mother, wife, sister, teacher, and friend, who integrates all that she is into her mission and as Chief Communications Officer of The Kabbalah Centre, she integrates her personal mission with this ancient wisdom.

Monica was born and raised in Louisiana before moving to Los Angeles. At 17, she began studying Kabbalah and knew very quickly that this was her path, eventually leading her to the serendipitous meeting of Michael Berg, her now-husband of 21 years.

During her teen years, Monica developed an eating disorder that grew into a five-year battle with anorexia and body dysmorphia. With her recovery came a better understanding of the disease and a passion to help others.

However, it wasn’t until her second child was born that Monica had to reevaluate her own belief system. Her son, Joshua, was diagnosed with Down Syndrome shortly after his birth, which was life-changing for Monica and her family. The diagnosis led to Monica’s credo, “In change, there is great power,” and the choice to believe in the beauty and potential of who her son could become and subsequently who she could become.

Monica aims to challenge people and encourages them to reframe what they think they know and she’s seen the results of rethinking first hand. Monica learns from her students as often as they from her. “I’m inspired by everyone that I come into contact with,” Monica says, “Everyone has something valuable to share and we can derive meaning from each encounter.”

When she’s not writing, lecturing, or working with students at the centre, Monica contributes her time and voice to Habitat for Humanity and Something For Kelly. While she is passionate about helping all people feel empowered, she is especially committed to organizations that support women, particularly those with a mission focused on overcoming eating disorders.

Monica currently resides in New York City with her husband Michael and their children David, Joshua, Miriam, and Abigail.  Her second book, Rethink Love,  will be out on February 11, 2020.

Despite how painful it was, there is a certain blessing that comes with the change in perspective that this situation caused, and that’s what we’re here to talk about.

Alisa Vitti, also known as the “hormone whisperer,” is a functional nutritionist, women’s hormone expert, best-selling author, and the founder of floliving.com. In this conversation, she talks about her journey healing her own health issues — cystic acne, excess weight, infertility, and more — through food and functional medicine, and why it was so important for her to begin sharing this message with more women.

Question Highlights:

  • How can we support ourselves around our cycle?
  • Is it normal to have hiccups in energy or different moods?

Guest Bio:

Alisa Vitti is a functional nutritionist, women’s hormone expert, best selling author and founder of floliving.com. Also known as the “hormone whisperer,” Alisa has opened up the conversation about menstruation while helping and inspiring women to tap into their inner wisdom and feel good all month long.

As a student at John Hopkins, Alisa Vitti was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, or PCOS. When her physicians gave her only band-aid solutions to manage it, she realized that she needed a more organic solution.  Determined to take matters into her own hands she turned to food and functional nutrition to get to the root of her issues. It worked, and on many levels. After healing herself of cystic acne, excess weight, infertility, and normalizing her period, Alisa made it her mission to help other women to do the same.

Alisa founded FLO Living in 2002. At that time, it was called Laughing Sage Wellness, and it was a brick and mortar women’s health center in New York City. Alisa’s classes and one-on-one coaching taught women how to achieve regular periods, how to heal from menstrual disorders such as PMS, PCOCS, endometriosis, ovarian cysts, and fibroids, and how to optimize fertility and heal symptoms of perimenopause or premature hormonal aging. Alisa created the WomanCode System to teach women how to balance their hormones with food and lifestyle changes.

Demand for the FLO protocol and classes grew so much that the center was constantly booked, and to meet the demand Alisa transformed her wellness practice into the first-ever online hormone health center to help women around the world. FLO Living has since helped thousands of women in more than 216 countries for over 14 years.

Alisa is also the author of the best selling books, WomanCode and In the FLO: Unlock Your Hormonal Advantage and Revolutionize Your Life (Harper Collins 1/28/20), public speaker and creator of the period tracker app MyFLO. MyFLO is the first-ever functional medicine based period tracking app that helps users track symptoms and know what to do to become symptom free. She has been featured on The Dr. Oz Show, has a web series on Lifetime, and has been a regular contributor for CBS, Fox, Shape, Women’s Health, MindBodyGreen, and the Huffington Post. She has served on the Yahoo Health advisory board and is a member of the Well & Good Wellness Council. She is also an advisor to several health and health tech startups.  She has presented at TEDx, Talks@Google, Summit Series Outside, Hay House, WIE Symposium, and SHE Summit.

Alisa lives in New York City with her husband and daughter.

I recently read a Forbes article called "Mentally Strong People: The 13 Things They Avoid" and it was just the kick in the ass I needed. This is a bit of tough love, but it will help you break away from the habits that are really holding you back from your greatest mental strength. The more I lean into my mental strength, the more in awe I am at what I’m capable of, and I want that for you as well.

Guest Bio:

Alli Webb is an Entrepreneur, N.Y. Times Bestselling Author, Founder of Drybar, and co-founder of Squeeze. After spending 15 years as a professional hairstylist, Webb left the professional hair industry in 2005 to start a family but decided to find a way to continue pursuing the creative side of hairstyling at a new-mom pace. She began offering affordable in-home blowout services to her mommy friends, which quickly expanded into a mobile operation by 2009.

In 2010, Webb opened the first Drybar in Brentwood, CA. Almost 10 years later and over 150 locations across the U.S., Webb’s Drybar has exploded into a nationally recognized and highly sought-after brand. Webb has also diversified the Drybar brand, creating a line of products and tools sold at popular retailers such as Nordstrom, Sephora, and Ulta.

Webb has been named the “100 Most Creative People in Business” by Fast Company, featured on Fortune magazine’s “40 Under 40” list, Marie Claire’s “Most Fascinating Women” covered Inc Magazine’s “How I Did This” issue and recently Inc. magazine recognized her as one of “The 100 Women Building America’s Most Innovative and Ambitious Businesses.”

When I sat down to record this, I wasn’t sure what I was going to say. But I’ve been thinking about the importance of consistency and showing up — for podcasts, for commitments, for social media. And that’s what I get into today: showing up consistently and making connections on social media. I’ve been slacking in that department, so today I’m committing to showing up on Instagram every day for the next 30 days. Are you with me?
