Show Notes:

What do you do when you and someone close to you – a friend, a business partner, a spouse – are in two different seasons? Sometimes you’re going to find yourself working closely with someone who’s in a different mode of life than you, so you’ve got to learn how to make the most of it.

First and foremost: honor whatever season you’re in. Whether you’re in a season of resting or a season of pushing, you are only going to hurt yourself if you fight against it. Those seasons are not going to last forever, so just remember that the best thing you can do for your success is to take care of what you need in the moment.

Don’t be afraid to ask for what you need. Tying back to that first point, if someone asks for something from you that would require you to dishonor your needs, you need to make that clear. In return, ask for what you need. Find some common ground, make your needs clear, and be willing to take different approaches to get where you want to go.

You need to make sure that you’re communicating your long-term goals. When you see the overall vision and know that you’re both working towards it, you’ll be more forgiving of the ebb and flow it takes to get there.

You also should find other people in the same season as you. It can get lonely when all of the people near you seem to be in another mode, so seek out those going through the same thing so that you can fuel each other up however you need to.

When you find yourself in different seasons with friends, a romantic partner, or a business partner, it can actually lead to great things. Follow these tips and you can accelerate your season, creating a win-win situation for everyone.

  • Striving for happiness
  • What makes us happy
  • The detrimental effects of loneliness
  • Deciding what you actually want
  • Finding the relationships that matter in your life

Resources:

Show Notes:

It’s really easy to neglect our relationships when going after our big dreams. When I was writing my book “A Tribe Called Bliss,” I did a ton of research on what makes people happy. What is this place called bliss that we all strive for? Is it even worth striving for? Happiness is great, but it’s important that we don’t deny ourselves the full range of emotions just because we want to be happy. And one of the best ways to cultivate those emotions is through meaningful relationships.

May 18, 2021

In This Episode You Will Learn About:

  • The power of visualization
  • The Circle method
  • How to manifest what you want

Resources:

Show Notes:

This manifestation trick is so fast, so easy, and so effective that you won’t believe it actually works. If you’re a visual thinker, this is totally going to change the game for you — even if you’re not, there are ways you can incorporate it into your life in a positive way.

Laura Day, author of “The Circle,” teaches a manifesting method similar to this — but we’ve put our own little spin on it. Here’s how it works… picture a circle in your mind with you at the center. You’re a magnet in the center of your circle. Place other things that you desire for the day in the circle. Feel them in your presence and imagine that you are attracting them to you. Just by putting them in your circle and keeping them in your mind, it will force you to take action. If you’re not a visual thinker, physically draw out a circle and hand-write what you want to attract inside of it.

That’s it! When you picture what you want, you bring it to the forefront of your mind, subconsciously encouraging yourself to take action towards those goals. It’s dead simple; imagine your circle and draw in the life that you want.

In This Episode You Will Learn About:

  • Why Jennifer started Locks & Mane
  • Providing hair for people in cancer treatment
  • Not stopping at “no”
  • Embracing fear
  • Sharing the scrappy stuff

Resources:

Show Notes:

Jennifer Parrott had struggled with her hair her whole life. She started getting extensions when she was 15 years old but she could never find a product that was all-natural, cost-effective, and non-damaging. She put together a business-plan, but put it on pause when she became pregnant with her son. While on maternity leave, she decided it was now or never and finally took the leap. Fast forward to today and she’s featured in several national retailers and still expanding! She asks how to embrace fear and discomfort, and how much she should be sharing online. We also talk about how her experience when her son contracted leukemia led to a whole new, philanthropic side of her business.

Questions Asked:

  • I know you’ve talked a lot about embracing fear and I completely subscribe to the notion that everything great sits on the other side of our fears. Can you share some tips on how to get through those uncomfortable moments and manage anxiety, as well as how to keep embracing and moving towards the things that scare us the most?
  • I really struggle with how much I should share about my personal and professional life on social media. On one side, I feel like I should keep so much private - especially the really messy stuff (i.e. skirting bankruptcy more times than I’d like to admit, how hard it is to ‘balance’ growing a company, and trying to be a good mom, wife, friend, etc.). On the other hand, I feel like it’s so important to share the bumpy road that it’s been. What are your top tips for building a personal brand? How do you manage to do such an amazing job focusing on your businesses as well as your personal brand?

Guest Bio:

Jennifer Parrott is a mom of two and the founder of Locks & Mane. Locks & Mane is one of North America’s fastest-growing luxury extension brands, making high-quality extensions fast, safe, and affordable. Locks & Mane believes in creating quality products that inspire all women to look and feel their best. You can find Locks & Mane products at HSN, Ulta Beauty, Bloomingdales… and Macy’s, later next month!

Show Notes:

When Chris and I first started our businesses, our capacity to tackle so many things at once was much lower than it is today. You don’t need to load your life up and overwhelm yourself to get better at multitasking. The more you align and discipline yourself in the way that you want, the more expansive your capacity to get things done becomes. Doing so can be difficult — it can be hard, and stressful, and overwhelming — but you can hold so much more on the other side.

Show Notes:

It can be really hard to break tough news to your partner. When Chris lost his job in 2008, he had to come home and tell me not only that news, but that our finances weren’t in order and we were going to lose everything. It’s one of those moments that scars you — you never forget it.

We’re going to relive one of the hardest moments of our lives because we think there’s value to be had in that moment. It’s less about breaking the news itself and more about assessing where you’re at and deciding what to do with the information you find. Here’s what happened next for us:

Chris came home and told me that we would have to sell our brand new house, our cars, everything, and move into a small apartment. And I responded with two things. First, I said “Then that’s what we have to do.” And second, I said “This will never happen to us again.”

It was then that we decided to enter the knowledge industry. I started teaching online courses with the goal of finding just one hundred women to join me monthly. When that took off, I realized the one thing all these women had in common was that they needed support, so I created The Bliss Project. That led to The Bliss Habit, a way to take that same idea to the people who couldn’t make it to the event.

No matter where you are in your journey, it’s not too late to take control of your future.

Are you holding dueling desires? It can be so easy to want something on the one hand, but be subconsciously afraid of what happens when we get it on the other. If we don’t get to the root of that disparity, we will constantly be creating and canceling out that thing that we want. Let’s talk about how you can support your dreams without letting fear get in the way.

Show Notes:

Welcome back to Questionably Awesome! Today, Evans and I answer your questions about following up on a “No” and negotiating your worth.

Mara Casler asks: How do you approach asking for what you want, after you've been told “No”? How long do you wait to ask again?

Elizabeth Johnson asks: How do I negotiate for the salary and benefits (equity in the comp!) that I want/deserve when I have only a handful of years of experience on my side? Sometimes people place a higher value on years of experience over quality of present work! (I'm measurably more valuable than some folks who've been in the biz for more time.)

Show Notes:

Everyone has some limiting beliefs that are holding us back from getting where we want to go. Sometimes the hardest part of getting through your journey is finding a way to move past those beliefs. We are going to share three limiting beliefs each that we’ve had to go through in order to be where we are today.

Lori:

  • Anxiety and panic attacks. Every time she would get in front of people she would feel like she couldn’t breathe, starting as far back as 7th grade.
  • Not understanding your worth. It can feel scary to charge what you should when providing a product or service without undercutting yourself. If you’re resentful for the time you’re putting in without compensation then something is out of alignment.
  • Fear of sharing your story. It can be hard when you’re trying to be authentic but you know that sharing details about your life are going to have an impact on other people.

Chris:

  • Fear of comparison. When Chris was preparing to launch For the Love of Money, he kept putting it off because he couldn’t stop comparing himself to other brands that were further along. You want to surround yourself with people who motivate you, but you have to be able to step through that fear and do it anyway.
  • Fear of failure. Chris would set big sales goals but worry about the blowback that would come if he didn’t hit them. The irony is that he’s rarely hit the sales goal he set, but that didn’t mean they weren’t successful and still worth doing.
  • Fear of change. This comes along when you are afraid of losing the good life you have in the pursuit of a great life.

Strategy is everywhere. It’s easy to find. But what’s really holding most people back is their belief in their ability to do it. So take a look at the limiting beliefs that are holding you back and tell yourself “This isn’t true.” Only then can you move forward into your highest self.

Show Notes:

We were not always money magnets. In fact, both of us repelled money in different ways for much of our lives. It takes financial motivation AND education in order to both make money and hold onto it. We’re going to go over four things you can do to become a money magnet:

  • Clearing out the old to take your power back. When you’re blaming others, or your past, you don’t do the work to take ownership of your future. It’s your choice, alone, to clear out the old, unnecessary thoughts and beliefs holding you back.
  • Decide to become educated and motivated. One of the best ways to do this is through reading books and listening to podcasts — take advantage of free resources.
  • Curate and control your environment. Your environment, meaning the people, places, and propaganda you are surrounded by, have a huge impact on your mindset. The people in your life are either enforcing your dreams or unwittingly sacrificing them.
  • Reinforce your new patterns and beliefs. You need accountability partners. You need to measure what matters. You need to journal your actions and thoughts. Visualize where you want to be.

Everybody can do these four things. There are no barriers to entry other than doing the work. Follow these to break those old financial habits and become a money magnet.
