For years Chris and I were yes people, and for years we have watched others “yes” themselves to death. Now, we practice not just saying no to things that do not serve our greater vision and purpose but going beyond that and letting it be okay if we disappoint people by saying no. We have consistently learned from others who have beautiful boundaries to protect and who have thrived by doing so. When you say yes to everything, you water down your message. When you constantly say yes, you take yourself away from your primary vision and the message you want out in the world.

This week, I had the pleasure of interviewing Danielle Robay, a TV host and journalist who is currently the host of E!’s While You Were Streaming. She is the creator of the video podcast PRETTYSMART, and the best-selling card game QUESTION EVERYTHING: 52 Cards For Deep(er) Conversation, noted by Forbes as a “game changer”.
Danielle is a big believer in being a self generator and we talk in-depth about putting yourself out there and going for what you want, instead of waiting for someone to bring it to you. We also discuss how there is no failure in entrepreneurship, it's just a pivot that pushes you into the next thing.

I was recently listening to an episode of the Ed Mylett Show with Rory Vaden, and they brought up the difference between investing time versus spending time. It’s a simple idea, but it helped me realize that being intentional about what you’re doing and who you’re doing it with isn’t just about streamlining your schedule, but it’s also about moving the needle on your long-term goals and making your life better. I’ve been reflecting on how I’ve been able to apply this to my life and some tangible ways for you to implement it in your life as well.

We feel so fortunate to live the life that we do now and show up for our friends and family in ways that we never could’ve dreamed of, and the thought of all that going away is enough to kick us into high gear. There are two main tools that I use to lift myself up and change my mood when I’m feeling overwhelmed. I like to make sure that I have scheduled things to look forward to and that I’m prioritizing time with the community that I really want to invest in long term. Lately for me that looks like getting out onto the water and surfing, and spending time with people who make me feel fulfilled, content, and supported. I share examples of activities that you can do to take your stress levels down and create a sense of community. GUEST BIO
Kelly Kussman is the founder and CEO of Cayla Gray. After 20 years building a career in corporate retail, she had a life altering incident that led her to change course and start her own dream business. Cayla Gray was founded in 2020 and is a luxury line of clean fragrances, offering both core and seasonal scents. Kelly wanted to create healthier fragrance options for women because we deserve better products.
Nothing matters until you make it matter, good or bad. It can be so easy to spiral and focus your energy on things that are frustrating, upsetting, or just generally keeping you down. On the flip side, if you want to prioritize something, you have to be super intentional about that and make sure that you’re giving it the attention that it deserves. I’m trying to become a master of focusing my time and energy where it serves me best, enjoying my downtime, and being present with the people that I love. GUEST BIO
AJ Vaden is CEO and Co-Founder of Brand Builders Group, one of the world's leading authorities on personal brand strategy.
She’s also the co-host of the Influential Personal Brand podcast, named one of Forbes' top 10 podcasts to listen to in 2021. Along with her company she’s been featured in Inc, Success Magazine, Fast Company, Entrepreneur, and Good Morning America.
With an entrepreneurial career that spans 15 years, AJ has been part of founding, building, and leading 4 different 7 and 8 figure companies all centered about personal and professional development practices.
Her client roster includes senior executives from Fortune 100 Companies and 9 Figure Entrepreneurs to Hollywood Actors, Award Winning Musicians and Politicians to New York Times Bestselling Authors and world-renowned thought leaders.
She has spoken to hundreds of thousands of people from across the world spanning globally recognized brands such as Bridgestone and DIRECTV to industry leaders including Budget Blinds, Verizon Cellular Sales, and American Pacific Mortgage to nationally recognized organizations like NAWBO and EO on how to become more well known in your space and leverage your reputation to be recognized as your industry’s “go-to” expert.
If you're procrastinating and putting off your big goal because you want it to be perfect, that's just another version of an excuse. That might sound harsh, but it’s something I wish I would’ve heard when I was sitting in a lot of resistance. I’ve realized that it’s better to do whatever it takes to get the job done, and then learn on the other side. If you have to do more research and drag out your launch, it means you probably shouldn't be teaching it because you haven’t lived it yet. I promise that it’s better to condense your timeline, make yourself do it, and get your idea out there ASAP.

Chris and I were coaching separate groups recently, and when we came together to talk about how the sessions went, we realized a lot of entrepreneurs are facing four similar challenges. We’ve noticed that many business owners are up against an audience problem, they’re not providing value to their audience, their content is stale, or they’re comparing their chapter one effort to someone else’s chapter nine results. It’s so powerful to hear the truth and bring some self awareness around what’s really holding you back, and we hope that this conversation can shine a light on how you can reach your true potential.
